As the mother of two young children, I understand how important it is for parents to know that their children will be taken care of if anything happens to them. In speaking with other parents, so many of them wanted this security but had not appointed guardians or put an estate plan in place. I founded Whelan Law PLLC to provide parents with a convenient and approachable path to peace of mind.
I grew up in a small college town in Maine. After high school, I wanted an adventure, so I moved to California where I graduated from Mills College with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology.
After college, I worked as an early childhood educator for a couple of years before attending Boston College Law School.
I began my legal career working at large international law firms where I represented prominent corporate clients in high-stakes litigation. During this time, I developed the commitment to excellence and client service that I bring to my estate planning practice today. After more than 10 years of helping corporations, I wanted to do something more with my legal skills. I decided to go back to school and earn an advanced legal degree, L.L.M., in Estate Planning and Elder Law to refocus my practice and dedicate myself to helping families prepare for the future.
I live in the Park View neighborhood of Washington, D.C. with my husband Sam, my six-year-old son Nevin, and my two-year-old daughter Scarlet.
When I’m not working, I love exploring the DMV’s amazing museums, parks, playgrounds, zoo, and aquarium with my kids. I also enjoy cooking, planning my family’s next trip, and creating elaborate sensory bins.
